As part of the Full Plates, Bright Futures initiative, funded by the 2025 Hunger Free Kansas grant program, more than 30 students from White City and Council Grove High Schools rolled up their sleeves to fight food insecurity in the Flint Hills.
Together, these students prepared and packaged 287 freezable, microwave-ready meals, which were distributed to local organizations serving families in need.
This effort was guided by lessons developed by Diane Mora, creator of the Kids Feeding Kids program in Kansas City, MO, and delivered by Deb Andres, Family & Consumer Sciences Agent with K-State Extension – Flint Hills District. Over the past several months, students learned about hunger and food insecurity, then put that knowledge into practice by making a tangible difference in their communities.
At the heart of the Hunger Free Kansas grant is a commitment to educating and empowering youth. By equipping students with the tools to address hunger locally, the partnership between Flint Hills Extension District and Live Well Morris County is helping build brighter futures for all.
The gallery collage features images of Live Well Morris County partners receiving training from the Kids Feeding Kids program, along with photos of local youth involved in their recent meal preparation.
